I keep 6 months of preps and rent payments, when ATM is down. Stock what you can afford, but stock something and the next months rent etc. Disasters can destroy everything, but just move to a safer country, as I did at 79. Locals get what I want, and I order from the stores for home delivery every 6 months to restock my preps. Please help non beggars help themselves at all ages. Do not be stingy and
greedy. Do not harm anyone unless self-defense. Live and let live. You will reap what you have sown, and will go to hell in gasoline drawers.
I am Muslim. I was raised with morals.
I live in Mexico now and not any shortages, and minimum wage is $10 per 12 hours shift, so they buy at the open market. not per hour, but 6 12 hours or more days. I have the same 6 months stock up of food and rent, as I had in the USA, when the ATM and banks shut down. USA bank refunds my ATM fees.
Im not worried at all…..i throw my burdens on God as he says in Psalm 55;22….and so i never worry about anything…worrying is for those who dont know how to not worry,…..i pride my self in knowing God and my relationship with Jehovah has given me such an strong outlook and a bright future where God who is Jehovah as he says in Psalm 83;18 says thatnthen future is soooo bright for those who keep close to him n draw closer to Him as he says inJames 4;8…so i dont worry about nothing…the antidote to worrying is to throw yr worries or burdens as we like to call it on God….
I'm old enough that I remember Black Monday in October 1987 as well as the 2008 crash. I've seen the dotcom bust and the housing bubble pop. I'm sure there were others that I've forgotten.
Also, I'm an archaeologist. I've been doing a lot of 19th century archival research. There were recessions and crashes then too! Some were calamitous.
What am I working toward?
We will survive.
The market will recover. BUT cash is always good. Always keep a cash stash in safe vehicles
My personal experience of the crashes is that the Joseph principle is very sound. During the fat years, stash as much as you can, and ration it out in the lean years. In the bible story, it was 7 years. In the same vein, Jesus praised the wise virgins who kept a jar filled with oil so they could refill their lamps.
It's the same old same old: live below your means, save what you don't spend!
After this long preamble, I'm going to have to retire in a few months as my health is tanking. Chronic migraine.
I'll be 64. What this means is that my Social Security benefits and 403(b) earnings will be reduced for as long as I live. Plus I have to pay health insurance for a year and this is very serious sticker shock – even with ACA exchanges. I'd expected to transition from employer-provided insurance to Medicare. My emergency fund will pay for it.
So yes, I'm going to be taking a very hard long look at expenses.
I'm going to repeat the Wall Chart from Your Money or Your Life. This served me very well when I first started my financial journey. This time round I'll use Excel.
I'll give myself to the end of the year to stabilize and then I may look for a part-time job. Yes, I'll have enough money even if I don't work, but…
Can you give any recommendations on updating a resume? It has been a while since I have update mine, but I would really like to keep one on hand up to date. I want it to be a well written, polished resume.
Your videos are really encouraging! I'm a student and work part time already in my field and I'm trying so hard to minimize my budget but low pay and extremly busy life I just can't seem to save more money. I'm happy I save 10% but I'd really like to lower also other expenses. Thank you far makingvthese video! If nothing else I feel like I'm on the right financial path.
We went down to a bare bones budget here recently. We unplugged a drink refrigerator, turned off some extra outdoor lighting, drive around our hybrid commuter car instead of our minivan as much as possible, turned our tacos into rice bowls so we don’t have to buy tortillas, using milk in our coffee instead of half and half. Keep ourselves from credit card debt in these pinched times!
Our ready cash is lower than it's been because we gave a big chunk to a sick family member and opened an 11 month CD with another big chunk for 5% interest. That means stop shopping.
I got a little worried about my credit union crashing and I called my financial adviser who is really well schooled and he reassured me that I am safe. He said if I had more than $250,000 in one institution he would advise to split it up into another institution but that credit unions are actually a little safer than banks in that they are structured differently and are historically more conservative. That made me feel good as I have several certificate of deposits that I wanted to make sure we're protected. Great advice in this video Jennifer!
You are EXCELLENT. THANK you. LISTEN To this WISE LADY.
NOT WORRIED. GOD IS IN CHARGE.

Hello auntie Jen! 😍👋
"this too shall pass". Is what I think.
Thank you Jennifer for always bring us sensible information. I look forward to your videos. 💜
Thank you for giving practical advise instead of fear mongering. Breath of fresh air to hear plans and resolutions instead of hiding in the tool shed.
Our ready cash is lower than it's been because we gave a big chunk to a sick family member and opened an 11 month CD with another big chunk for 5% interest. That means stop shopping.
I make it my duty to listen to you every Sunday
Great video, great tips! HAPPY SPRING tomorrow!
Hey Jennifer😅
Smart and great advice! Sher.
