  1. also declining conversion on an ATM is super important. i always use this app . ATM Fee Saver. it shows ATMs with no or low fees around. Super nice to save money while travelling

  2. Charles Schwab ATM card for atm withdrawals (only). Most reasonable Credit Cards offer no Foreign Transaction Fees. Use your cards for any/everything you can to avoid changing money. If you don't have one of those, get one. That is all this video needed to say, really.

  3. The revelation I recently got (thanks to my son in law) is that I don’t have to travel extremely often to earn significant travel points from credit cards. I use my card that gives the most points (not one of the really expensive ones) and put ALL of my regular monthly expenses on the card (to earn points) and then pay it off monthly (as I would if the expenses were coming straight from my checking account). But now I’m earning points on things I need to spend on anyway.

There’s even a great card-called Bilt-that lets you earn points (dollar for dollar) for your monthly rent payments!

  4. I had problem withdrawing money in ATM in Greece with my usual debit card. I contacted my bank and they said there was no problem with the card itself. However, it did not work. My solution : first I paid off my credit card balance using my bank app, and then the next day, I used my credit card to have a cash advance. This worked well. I used this trick twice now.

  5. Cash in 3 different places:
    1. in my handluggage trolley,
    2. some money in my small backpack,
    3. And some with me (money belts and pocket)
For the credit and debit cards something similar plus apple pay

  6. MONEY!

Thank you so much for these really insightful, informative, and generally very helpful videos. They have really been especially helpful in reminding us of all the many important things that we need to think about and prepare for (from money, to phone service, to general safety and well being while traveling, to travel insurance). Thanks so much.

  7. Another wonderful video. Just make sure that your credit card is contactless as well. Prior to leaving for Europe I go to my local bank and order currency for the countries that I am going to visit. Its $8 for the transaction. So I can order 200 Euros, 200 Pounds, 200 Swiss Francs for the one $8 fee (or whatever currency you require). I go against the norm on this but I do not take an ATM card. I take two contactless credit cards that have no foreign transaction fees. Why no ATM card? It seems to be very confusing on what the fees will be when conducting the transaction. There are all kinds of ATM machines (all over Europe in tourist destinations) claiming no commission and other gimmicks to get you to use them. I assume they get you with a lower exchange rate. If someone is versed on which ATM's to use then there will not be a problem. I do take US currency for possible emergency situations. I've never had a need to use it. I admit I run a risk of having my foreign currency or US currency stolen. I have been going to Europe often. I have never had any type of issue.
